Obama’s limo

The Beast

The Beast

So, Obama has this (not so) new armored limo. It wasn’t untill I saw the picture above that I realized how huge this beast actually is. Usually such limo’s are based on normal production cars. Obama’s limo, however, seems to be based on a GMC Topkick truck. Of course the thing is stuffed with all kinds of goodies like night vision camera’s, kevlar reinforced tires, oxygen supply and bottles filled with the presidents blood.

Vertu

Vertu Signature

Continuing on this (short) series of ridiculously priced mobile phones, Vertu also has some pretty cool offering. These phone’s aren’t just pretty jewelry. They’re also built to last. The one picted above, for example, has a special surface created in a 2000 °C furnace. But you’re probably better off buying a new phone every time you break or scratch one. That is, of course, unless you really need a worldwide 24×7 concierge service and ringtones exclusively composed by the London Symphony Orchestra?

Ulysse Nardin Chairman

Ulysse Nardin Chairman

I’m looking for a stylish simple phone that has one simple feature: I should be able to call people! Ulysse Nardin seems to be on the right track with their Chairman. I like the metal mechanical look and feel it has. Unfortunately it also sports a 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi which is a bit too “smart” for my liking. I’m probably not going to like the price tag either.

BMW 5 series GT design

BMW 5 Series GT

BMW 5 Series GT

So I really love BMW. Not just because of the brand or the image. But simply because I admire companies that are able to efficiently combine innovative technology, design and function. BMW is doing a great job at combining technology with function. However, I’m afraid to admit, they are currently lagging behind at the design portion of the equation. Take the new 5 series GT for example. In my opinion a Grand Turismo should be an elegant, fast, luxurious  and comfortable car. The 5 series GT has the right looks at the front. But then towards the back it all goes horribly wrong. It looks more like a SUV. So I’ve been trying to improve the design a bit to make the rear less aggressive and as elegant as the nose. What do you think?

I just ate my peanutbutter sandwitch! Spreaded on a fresh slice of bread with little chips of nut. Sometimes good things come in small packages.

Mininova in numbers

March 12th, 2009

Ars has some interesting figures on the torrent site Mininova. With over 17 million pageviews per day they managed to make a nice € 1,000,000 through advertising in 2007. All this coming from a legal registered company in the Netherlands. Should be interesting to see how those anti-piracy organisations will be trying to take them down.
